Surat Al-Alaq adalah surat yang ke 96 dan terdiri dari 19 ayat serta termasuk golongan surat Makiyyah (Surat yang diturunkan di Makkah). Dari mulai ayat pertama sampai lima dari surat ini, merupakan yang pertama kali diturunkan kepada Nabi Muhammad SAW ketika bertafakkur di gua hira. Surat ini dinamai Al-Alaq yang artinya segumpal darah, yang diambil dari ayat kedua. Surat ini pun dinamai Surah Al-Buruj (Arabic text: البروج) is the 85th chapter of the Qur’an.
